Alright you young, professional gorgeous women of Houston. Here is an upcoming event that you do not want to miss! Career expert, and best selling author Nicole Williams, is coming to Houston to promote her new book Girl On Top, and is throwing a big party for all of us in the process. That's right, I'm invited, and so are 50 of you!

So what's in it for you?? The first 50 of you who register for the Girl on Top LIVE event will receive a VIP pass to an evening of:

  • Chatting up the women in Houston you need to have on speed dial

  • An exclusive 40% discount on The Limited's brand new business-chic attire (This guarantees that I will be leaving with shopping bags)
  • Free-flowing Girl On Top Cocktails (those of you who are long time readers know that this is probably the #1 reason I'm going)
  • Career advice from Nicole Williams. I've spent forever on her website, and she is the bees knees, the bomb diggity, and totally off the chain. (Not to mention the fact that people pay big bucks for her words of wisdom)

Ta Da!

I'm already getting giddy as a school girl about Halloween! Don't be surprised if you see an overkill of Halloween themed posts for the next month. I would love to toss these creepy pillows from Tada Boutique all over my house. They would be a perfect way to set a haunted mood, and entertain on for All Hallows Eve.

Save the Ta-ta's!

Yeah, that's right...I said ta-ta's. September is rolling to a close which means that it is time to kick off another wonderful Breast Cancer Awareness Month. What better way, than to save some Ta-ta's?? Right? Wanna know how?

The ultra cool and overall amazing Houston organization Charity Chicks, is throwing a swinging bash at the Bering and James Art Gallery on October 16th, to benefit the Save the Ta-ta's Foundation. Guests will sip cocktails, enjoy desserts, and check out the showcase of delightful BRA ART. So, what the heck is BRA ART? It's a unique themed bra decorated with love, hope and courage by groups or individuals raising money and awareness for breast cancer in our area. Seriously, how often do you get to see an artistic BRA display??

I've been chatting with Jayme Lamm of Charity Chicks, and through her, I have come to absolutely adore this organization.
"Charity Chicks is always looking for fun ways to raise money for all the great non-profits around the area. Save the Ta-tas has always been a fun brand to talk about and learn about a serious disease that affects so many women and their families every year. BRAtober 16 has been in planning for months and we are excited to Save the Ta-tas here in Houston!"

Yes Jayme, I too am excited about saving some ta-ta's! Tickets can be purchased at the Charity Chicks Website, and you can also RSVP on their facebook page. Oh yeah, don't forget to come dressed in PINK!

Tame Your Wild Things

So I had a friend contact me recently, asking about the best ways to organize and store children's books, and I thought I'd share some of the info. Any system can work, as long as it makes sense to your little one, and is easy for them to maintain on their own, but here are a few little hints.

  • Organizing books by size or color is great younger children and visual learners
  • Keeping books together by genre, or alphabetically by author is helpful for older children
  • If shelves are labeled, kids will remember where the book goes. For very little ones label with pictures instead of words
  • If you keep a cute bin nearby, you can easily toss in books ready for donation
  • Before you donate, check to see if you can get a pretty penny for it. Bookscouter.com, tells you which websites will pay you the most for your hardbacks.

There are lots of options for storage, but I am personally loving all of these sweet storage options from Crate and Barrel's Land of Nod. My favorite is the "Bin There Done That" Floor Book Bin (at top). It is chic functional decor at its finest. It shows off your books whimsical covers, while storing at the same time!

Now it's your turn. What are your favorite ways for storing your children's books?

A Sneak....

Just wanted to give you a little taste of an upcoming featured artist

Stay tuned...

Hot Pink Fall

Michael Kors Fall 2009

Alexander McQueen

Versace

Sometimes when the 80's rear their ugly head, it is actually quite refreshing. Hence the reemergence of hot pink this fall. Usually fall trends lead toward darker, deeper colors in preparation of shorter days with cooler weather. Ug, depressing. This shock of color makes me soo happy! What a breath of fresh air!

Hable Construction

Feeling colorful today with these cheery screen printed canvas bins from Hable Construction. The company was founded by two Texan sisters, Susan and Katharine Hable, who named their NYC-based textiles company after their great grandfather’s twentieth century road construction business. How cool is that? All of their fabrics have these delightful yet daring patterns with brilliant hand-drawn designs. I love how the hideaway storage bins (seen at the top in sweet pea) slide easily under beds (though I personally think they are much too lovely to hide). Peruse their entire collection here.

A little organizing secret: charming storage inspires an organized heart

By the way, we have a new giveaway coming up in the next few days so check back soon!

Seedy State

When September hits, I always start brainstorming about holiday gifts. Is it because I'm so super efficient that I plan everything 4 months ahead of time? No, of course not! I just really like to shop, and the holidays are a stellar excuse to start looking!! I always find the hardest gifts to be the little ones. It's easy when your brother wants a new iPod, or Dad needs a new camera. It's the smaller, under $10 items you might need for co-workers, clients, and casual acquaintances that are sometimes impossible. Embracing my newer Texan roots, I think these birdseed gifts from Nature Favors are just perfect. Though they are designed as wedding favors, at $20/dozen they are an eco-friendly, clutter-free, just plain darling gift for any occasion. Or even placed on the top of a beautifully wrapped gift...so cute. See more birdie treat styles here.

Dexter Decor

Along with all the other cult followers of Showtime's Dexter, I am eagerly awaiting the next season starting at the end of this month. I just recently found these deliciously devilish photos of designer Amy Lau's "Dexter's Dining Room," created last year for Metropolitan Home's Showtime House. Other than being just flat out brilliant, the pieces are murderous perfection down to the tiniest DNA details. Just how Dexter likes it.

Wine glasses with blood filled stems...

and telltale fingerprints on each glass...

Bone white vertebrae candle sticks illuminate a canvas of Dexter's latest masterpiece.

Even down to the bloody detail of each dining chair. Talk about a conversation piece for your dinner guests!

Finding My Way

I was born without any sense of direction. Zero. It's really quite embarrassing. Over the years, I've tried to improve my senses, but despite my best efforts, I still get lost very easily. This is why I found this compass trinket from 23rd Street Vintage to be a wise investment. Not only do I love its golden sparrow accent, it will help me get my bearings whenever I may need them.
