Vote for Dal!

My friend Dallas is quickly rising to the top of the Vince Camuto shoe design contest, but she could still use a boost from Houston's Weekly Chic readers! You can cast your vote here, and you can re-vote every day (her shoe design above can currently be found on page 3). Thanks so much for your help! -B

Who's Your Doggy??

On April 17th, I stopped by The Lot on Washington for the "Who's Your Doggy?" fundraiser, benefiting Texas Hearing and Service Dogs. And boy, what a fundraiser it was! Charity Chicks Houston organized the pup-tacular event filled with specialty cocktails, treats (both and human and canine), and other party favors (my doxie is psychotically obsessed with his new pink frisbee). The icing on the cake: gorgeous, irresistible photos from Monkey Tree Photography. Enjoy...

Peran & Scannell Jewelers Trunk Show

While playing at the Houston Women's Show past weekend, I met some truly amazing people. Two of those people, are Dawn Scannell and Shelley Peran, owners of Peran & Scannell Jewelers. Dawn, has been a Principle Ballerina at the Houston Ballet for 16 years, and Shelley has over 31 year of expertise in the jewelry industry. The two friends joined creative forces, and now offer one of the most unique selections of fine jewelry in the city (at wholesale prices!).

So this Thursday, P&S Jewelers is having a big party, and you are all invited! There will be champagne, hors d'oeuvres, and lots of time to play dress up with gorgeous sparkling diamonds! Be sure to swing by and pick up something for Mom. Here are the details...

Roadshow Blondes

Are you watching them yet? They are Jayme Lamm and Aimee Woodall, two of my favorite Houston philanthropic fabulousities. The Roadshow Blondes.

Where are they headed? On a road trip from H-town to NYC on a wacky adventure all in the name of suicide prevention. Besides singing girly songs in the car at the top of their lungs, these fine ladies are on a mission: putting their dignity on the line in order to raise money for the JED foundation . They are stopping in towns large and small, and doing just about anything you want in return for a JED donation. For example, Aimee (the vegetarian) will eat meat if you donate 1500, Jayme will skydive for $500, they'll spend the night at Walmart for $300...or whatever creative suggestions you have for them (I'm thinking of something involving snakes and scorpions).

Don't have 1500 to make Aimee sick? How about $5? That's all they need to reach their goal. Support these ladies in their road trip for JED by donating $5 here.

They are looking for connections everywhere they go, so contact them if you can help. Here is the remainder of their schedule below:

Tuesday, April 6 Wheeling Wv., New Stanton, Pa. (OVERNIGHT)
Wednesday, April 7 Breezewood , Pa. (which reminds me of holidays past, and my brother wanting to eat at Arthur Treachers), Chambersburg , Pa., Gettysburg , Pa. (OVERNIGHT)
Thursday, April 8 semi free day in Gettysburg, Pa. or surrounding city, then to Reading, Pa., Allentown, Pa. (thinking of visiting Penn State), arrive in NYC
Friday, April 9 NYC (OVERNIGHT)
Saturday, April 10 NYC (depart back to Houston at 8pm)

Cultural Weekend?

One of my (many) New Years Resolutions, was to see more live theatre in H-town this year. We have exceptional talent in this city, and all of our theatres can use our moral (and especially financial) support now more than ever. Every now and then I get to see a show that is so raw, so real, it blows me away and makes me remember why I became a theatre buff in the first place. Last weekend I had the immense pleasure of previewing Sam Shepard's True West with Pendulum Theatre Company. I've seen True West performed multiple times over the years, and this is the first time that I have seen a company capture the true spirit of Shepard's vision. The icing on the cake for me was that each $10 ticket comes with free spirits. Theatre and wine, my two favorite things in one place? Ahh happiness. It's playing through April 10th, so be sure to check it out!

Midtown Art Center. 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Through April 10. 3414 La Branch For information, call 832-746-7347 or visit www.pendulumtheatre.com. $10.
