Pumpkin Better than...Cake

A very very Happy Thanksgiving to all of our chic readers.  This year, I am thankful for you!  I started this blog on a whim in 2007, and am still going strong thanks to all of you stylish peoples.  

Btw, if you happen to have any leftover pumpkin from your late night baking marathon, might I suggest the recipe above from Something Swanky.  I just whipped it up last night, and it is quite yummy. So fast, and so easy.  I was clearly on a baking binge because I also threw together these Pumpkin Mousse Napoleons that I found on the Clever Housewife.  As if you won't have tons of leftovers already, but you can never have enough dessert.

Southward Apparel

Whew!  I'm back:)  Did you notice I stepped away for a bit last week?  At the last minute I had to head to San Antonio, which seriously recharged my batteries. While enjoying my breakfast at the Bistro overlooking the river one morning, it occurred to me that you might like to see the adorable, ultra-soft Texas-chic "t" I found from Southward Apparel.  I am undeniably a t-shirt and jeans chick at heart, so I fell in love with Southward's L.A. trendy meets comfy cowgirl style.  Which isn't surprising since the company was started by two L.A. ladies who are  originally from...you guessed it...Tejas.

Only thing missing from my own personal look:  cowboy boots.  It's wrong, it's terrible, and I'm sure I'll be persecuted for admitting this, but I don't own any (EEK!).  I've lived in Htown almost 7 years, I think it's about time my friends.  Ah well, that shall be a post for another day...

Freestylin'

I really only have one vice.  Well...one extreme one.  Coke.  Diet Coke to be specific.  Have always loved it, always will. So as you can imagine, when I was approached by Coca-Cola to play with their new Freestyle machine at the Black Walnut, I was eager to give it a go.  I will shamelessly promote Coke, especially if there's a chance they might send me free colas...or coupons (maybe? eh, eh? Oh well it was worth a shot:-)

So if you haven't visited a freestyle machine yet, each soda has a variety of different flavors you can add to give it a little extra spice via touch screen.  For example, Diet Coke offers vanilla, lime, orange, cherry, etc. Great...more ways to add to my already ingrained addiction.

So I tried both lime and vanilla (separately) in my D.C., and both were equally delish.  I know, not terribly adventurous.  Next time around, I plan to splurge on a little Sprite, perhaps with some added peach or grape.

I also found two extremely dapper gentleman putting rasberry in their Diet Coke, and they were nice enough to let me share a photo with you.

The Friends For Life’s Mobile Adoption Van (MAV) provides an air-conditioned, clean and quiet environment transporting up to 33 adoptable animals at a time. Outside windows offer viewing under an awning while inside, adopters get a hands-on visit. With the only city permit to do so at Memorial Park, the MAV is parked near the running trail the second Saturday of each month.

By trading an item such as their car keys or driver’s license, runners can “borrow” a dog to accompany them on the trail. This process helps potential adopters get to know the animal, seeing if they are a good fit. Running 4 Home isn’t just for marathon runners-some Friends For Life dogs prefer just a walk in the park. For cat lovers, plenty of felines hang out in the MAV where runners can come on board and meet them.

Gardere Hosts “A Night Out” Benefiting Dress for Success Houston, Nov. 15

Fashion and Philanthropy Unite at the 12th Annual Fundraiser Supporting the Purchase of Professional Attire for Economically Disadvantaged Women

Gardere invites charitable and business-minded Houstonians with a love for fashion and philanthropy to A Night Out, benefitting Dress for Success Houston, an event to help raise awareness and funds to purchase professional attire for low-income women transitioning into the workforce.

The evening with be emceed by KPRC Local 2 News Achor Rachel McNeill, and guests will enjoy dinner, a fashion show, boutique shopping, surprise bags, a raffle, and a fabulous style presentations.

Elaine Turner To Open in the Woodlands

Personally, I can never get enough of Elaine Turner, which is why I am delighted to announce that they will be opening their first boutique in The Woodlands Thursday, November 29th!  

The 1,600-square-foot store features Turner’s signature pink-and-white design inspired by exotic textures, material mixes, brilliant colors and custom hardware. The newest store includes the much-loved shoe salon where guests relax on Elaine’s signature hot pink, plush sofas and experience the warm customer service her boutiques are known for. 

In addition to handbags and shoes, the boutique will offer various accessories including clothing, jewelry, small leather goods, table-top gifts and candles. The feminine space is designed to host boutique guests, cocktail parties and philanthropy fundraisers.
